Ukraine Destroys 40 Russian Warplanes in Operation Spider’s Web
In a significant escalation of the conflict, Ukraine’s Security Service executed Operation Spider’s Web on June 1, 2025. The operation resulted in the destruction of over 40 Russian warplanes deep within Russian territory. This marks one of the most audacious drone strikes since the onset of the war. Ukrainian official says at attack was a reply to the Russian aggression on Ukraine almost over 4 years.
The operation targeted five major Russian airbases: Olenya, Dyagilevo, Ivanovo Severny, Belaya, and Ukrainka. Utilizing 117 drones concealed in trucks, Ukrainian forces launched a coordinated attack that penetrated five Russian time zones. The drones were released from wooden containers mounted on trucks, which were covertly positioned near the airbases.
According to Ukrainian officials, the strike damaged over 40 aircraft, including strategic bombers. The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed attacks on airbases across five regions but claimed to repel them in three.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy hailed the operation as a historic achievement, emphasizing its strategic impact on Russian military capabilities. Ukrainian forces meticulously planned the operation over 18 months and executed it without notifying Western allies.
The international community has reacted with a mix of concern and support. Some Western officials have expressed understanding of Ukraine’s actions, while others have called for restraint to avoid further escalation.
This development underscores the evolving nature of warfare, with drone technology playing an increasingly pivotal role in modern conflicts. The success of Operation Spider’s Web may influence future military strategies and international policies regarding unmanned aerial systems. More update on AI Techfair
